In light of my last post...I suppose that there must be oppisition in all things, right?! So now I am going to post all of the things that I didn't get to do this summer!....I think that Mother Nature is playing a very cruel joke and I feel rather gipped by her untimely temperture change here in my little neck of the woods. I am not ready to see the ugly face of "Old Man Winter" yet or even his less evil brother "Autumn"....I am in the offical mourning stage of my summer lost!
I feel robbed of many fun things that never happened this summer for one reason or another. Summer came late and left early this year, but it seemed that it was also packed with too many "have to do's" and not enough or in my case, very few of the "get to do's". I barely remember, but I think those are the fun things that we do "just because"...the things that we do to relax, to bring us a little happiness and pleasure in what is ordinarily a crazy, stressful life....(that would be MINE)!
My list of "Didn't get TO DO's"~
1. I missed "A" camping trip. I say "A" because once is enough for me. I like to go camping...but once I've had to do the clean up afterwards, I don't want to go again for a year. Camping is so much fun, but so much work...its like doing all the stuff I do every day (cooking, cleaning, washing etc...) but without all of the conveniences that we have at home.

2. I missed hiking in the mountains. Last year we went several times, probably 4-5 times, this year we went ZERO times...not even once! I love the smell of the mountain air. I love to hike on the trails and see the flowers, the animals and the different terrain. I really missed that this year!
3. I missed going to Lagoon (for those of you who don't live in UT, thats our amusement park). We usually go every year but weren't able to go this year. I love to ride the crazy rides with the kids...go through Dracula's Castle and ride across the park on the Sky Ride. I love to see the kids get excited and grin ear to ear because they are having an awesome time.
4. I missed going to the pool. I am not a big "swimmer" but I like to go to the pool at least once and play around in the water with the kids. It was hard to do much in the area of "water sports" this year because Cameron couldn't participate (because of his leg injury) and I hated to leave him out.
5. I missed roasting hot dogs and marshmallows in the mountains. Granted, we have a big fire pit in the back yard and could have a hot dog roast whenever we wanted, but it's NOT the same as going up to the mountains and cooking over the campfire and then sitting around afterwards and talking about life. When you are that close to the house, everyone disappears inside before any visiting happens. Not only that but for some reason, hotdogs always taste better in the mountain air...I don't know why, but they always do.
6. I missed going on "field trips" with my kids (the ones left at home). Ever since they were little I would take a day each week in the summer (or tried to) and we would go on a field trip. We've gone to the dinosaur quarry, hiking, picnicking, to lunch...we just took a day or an afternoon and WENT somewhere to get out of the house...it didn't happen this year!
7. I missed taking a few "day trips" with my hubby. For the past few summers we have taken at least 2 day trips during the summer. The kind of trips where we just pick someplace "semi-close" to home, pack up some "driving snacks" and take off for the day....it didn't happen even once this summer.
8. I missed my fresh peaches this year. Our little tree was just covered in peaches last year...it didn't even produce one this year. Our apple tree's did lousy as well (there are a few apples, but the worms enjoyed them more than we will be able to)...it was just too cold when the blossoms were out and they froze. We didn't get anything to show from our little trees.
9. I missed my lilacs that failed to bloom at all this year. Once again...the weather!! It froze all the little blossoms so we had none of my favorite flowers to smell or look at....it's amazing how much I really and truly missed them.
10. I missed the butterflies, the bees and the humming birds. I am not sure why, but there didn't seem to be any this year....at least that I saw in my yard. I usually have at least 2 humming birds that fly around my yard all year...they didn't come this year, my feeder still has food in it.
11. I missed taking the day off on my birthday. Our car was having issues at the time...and that day ended up being just like any other day...other than I took my car to the shop to have it looked at. I always allow myself to take my birthday off...to do WHATEVER I WANT TO do...to forget the work, the worry and the stress that comes with every other day of the year, and just spend my day relaxing...which usually requires me to leave the house (its too hard for me to relax when I am at home where everyone is expecting me to clean and cook). It was a bummer of a day!
12. I missed having my nieces and nephews over. I had wanted to plan a few days during the summer that I could take a few of them at a time and do something fun with them. Things like go to the park, the lake and hang out with them making cookies or something...it didn't work out this year. UHG!
13. I missed the wave pool in Price. The girls and I went last year and I was wanting to go again this year. We had so much fun and it was going to be a definite "must do" on my list of things for this summer...(yeh, right)!
14. I missed family get togethers and barbecuing. We usually have a few family BBQ parties at our house during the summer...nope, not this year!...not even ONE!
15. I missed hiking up to Timpanogos Cave. I had every intention of being able to cross this one off of my bucket list this summer...BUT I
am still hoping that I can pull it off this fall.
And the list could go on and on....and on~ (but I will spare any of you that have continued to read my post thus far)
Summer is the time when I feel the happiest, the time when I feel like I am in my element (sort of like a frog in a swamp full of flies)! Here's to hoping that next summer will allow me to do a few more of the things that I thoroughly enjoy and really missed out on this year.....................
